This is a lovely idea I came across a number of years ago, a Mitzvah Basket. 'Mitzvah' means 'blessing', and it is such a blessing when you are in need of a pad or tampon and there's a lovely little basket of them ready for use.
I keep a mitzvah basket in the house, right by the loo. When I was working I did the same there. Very occasionally, the basket was emptied, but most of the time it gradually diminished. My hope is that when all of the items disappeared they were taken by someone who didn't have much money and really was blessed to find a free supply.
